Continuing to Communicate
Communication, communication, communication...
By now it's probable obvious to you that there are three keys to successful caregiving: communication, communication, communication.
Establishing good communication early in the caregiving process establishes a positive care environment, keeps everyone informed, and helps minimize stress. It's important to maintain effective communication at any stage of the care process, to ensure continuous care, caregiver support, and cooperation within the support group. Ensuring everyone is "in the loop" will keep the caregiving process running smoothly and prevent caregiver burnout.
Keep using the tools you've found helpful for your various communication needs, and add new ones as they are needed. If you communicate online, for example, you may wish to continue or initiate instant messaging for "real-time" discussions, e-mail communication, forums between care group members and professionals, and journaling about caregiving concerns.
