Concerns about quantity of medications

Posted by canderson at February 15. 2009
Bernie cares for her husband who had a stroke 5 years ago. She seems realistic about his care, and lets him do as much as he can. She is concerned about the number of medications that have been prescribed. Is there a place where she could go to have a medication review to help her understand what all the medications are for and if there are any possible complications due to drug interaction?

You might want to start with the pharmacist - although they cannot diagnose illness or comment on the appropriateness of the prescription, they can help explain the purpose of the meds and look up any possible interactions. I hope that she is getting all his meds filled in the same pharmacy - this significantly lessens the chance of accidents due to interactions.
