Incontinence
Up to Family Caregiver Conversations
Here are some ideas on incontinence. Firstly be sure that Mom has seen a physician or urologist to be sure she is on the proper medications.
2nd: Many families find it helpful to put people on a toilet schedule of every 2 hours.
3rd: For night time be sure that Mom has limited fluids for several hours before bed. Coffee in the evening is of particular concern. If she is a coffee drinker be sure to stop coffee in the late afternoon.
4th: Incontinence products do vary and unfortunately the more you spend, the better the product. At least that is what I am seeing so far.5th: Be sure Mom is wearing pull-ups and that they fit properly.
6th: Many women think sanitary pads are incontinence products. Unfortunately pads are only good for little leaks and not incontinence.
Hope this helps. By the way, if Mom is on Medicaid, Medicaid will pay for pull-ups. Unfortunately I do not have the name of a local provider for Medicaid pull-ups, but if needed we can work on that.
