Diagnoses
When a parent's behavior or emotional state seem to interfere with relationships, activities of daily living, sense of well being, ability to make decisions or to deal with day to day problems, getting an accurate diagnosis is an important step in understanding how to help. Will medical intervention be necessary? Can counseling help? An accurate assessment is essential to plan effective strategies to reduce symptoms. The downside of diagnosis is that it is not a perfect process, so it is important to be as informed and involved as possible. Communication within the family and between professional providers and caregivers will help ensure appropriate assessments and recommendations.
