Policy Shopping

With any life or health insurance plan the key to buying the right type and right design is knowing what you're needs are, what risks are you trying to protect, what is your budget, what other sources of help are really available to you.

Use your current insurance agent if they offer the insurance you want. If not, ask for a referral or ask someone who where get their insurance from. Do business with a company that's been doing business in that type of insurance for 5 or more years in Colorado. That way there's a claims, service and premium rate history to review.

Cheapest is not always the best — you get what you pay for. For instance, this country is aging and insurance companies who recognize this are pricing their policies to anticipate paying claims rather than selling a low-ball price and raising rates on those policies in later years when the claims start rolling in.

All policies have some kind of free look period, a time from the date you get the policy from the agent in which you can read it, question anything you don't understand and cancel it for a full refund if you find it will not meet your needs.

Don't be afraid to investigate any insurance need you think you might have. Instead expect and demand an education on insurances that might fit your unique situation. Professional agents will cover the pro's and con's of an insurance coverage and review with you plans that fit your parameters and budget.
