Home Health Agencies

by admin last modified 2006-01-24 05:29 PM

Home health care services provide skilled and non-skilled services on an hourly basis.

All home health care services provide respite on an hourly basis. Home care offers a wide range of health and social services delivered at home to those recovering from an illness or injury, or to those who are disabled and/or chronically ill. Agencies delivering such care are generally known as "home health agencies." "Skilled services," such as nursing, social services, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and personal care assistance are provided for homebound individuals who are under a doctor's care for a new or worsening medical problem.

Non-skilled services, such as help with bathing, dressing, and eating, are also available. Walkers, wheelchairs, oxygen, and other medical equipment may also be provided. When home care services are needed after a hospital stay, the hospital discharge planner, your doctor, or a social worker can help locate an appropriate agency. The final decision as to which provider you contract with is up to you. The National Association for Home Care has a very informative web page on many aspects of home health care and hospice care.
